Our school

We are the most innovative international school in Kosovo based on Finnish education system and utilizing its best practices. The Finnish education system is the best in the world for more than 20 years now and we are very proud of offering 21st century education focusing on the whole child and a student centered learning environment. We are also an accredited Cambridge International School, the only school in Kosovo to offer an internationally recognized qualification. In addition, we are licensed by the Ministry of Education in Kosovo and our certificates and diplomas are recognized all around EU and worldwide.

At Finnish School of Kosovo, we believe that every student is entitled to a rich and varied enrichment experience. Our students engage in various extra-curricular activities and clubs to develop various skills necessary for their future development. Finnish School of Kosovo is the most innovative international school network utilizing the Finnish education system – the best in the world – combined with unique and proprietary educational technology. A global curriculum that focuses on the whole child and takes into account the needs of every student individually. Our school is commencing the process of CIS (Council of International Schools) Accreditation and we are accredited by Cambridge Assessment International Education (part of University of Cambridge)

The students enrolled at our school are of over 20 nationalities and 60% of the whole number are local and 40% international students, and we provide learning in English language with the highest number of international staff in an international school in the country.

By personalizing the student’s individual learning plan, our teachers and parents have a clearer picture and know which areas need improvement. This plan serves as a mirror of the student’s progress throughout the school year thus showing the teacher areas that need more focus for the student. This process is ongoing and students, parents, and teachers check in throughout the year to review the progress, modify the student’s personalized education plan, and adjust goals as needed.

Given that programming and technology are decisive in many aspects of our lives, in our school, children learn programming from a young age and are able to develop applications, games and command robots for a short period of time. In our curriculum, programming does not just mean developing technical skills but above all developing complex problem solving skills and creativity.

The arts in our school are just as important as science, because they stimulate creativity and teamwork, some of the most demanded 21st Century skills. Within the campus, space for art and creativity is offered so that students use it to paint, sing or perform on a musical instrument; develop role in drama and create new products through crafts and 3D printers.

In addition to regular integrated learning, afternoon clubs and outdoor learning, the Finnish School implements the most innovative learning concept called Koonta. In Koonta, students perform certain roles and manage companies or lead the municipality within one day. The whole city is connected through a special software through which many actions are carried out. Koonta city helps students to: Understand the functioning of society and the state; Develop entrepreneurial skills; Understand the functioning of governance and practice of business in practice and thus educate our children to become responsible and successful citizens.

The main difference between our school with any education offered in the region to date is on the learning approach – it happens everywhere: in classroom, in the corridor, in specialized laboratories, at the school or outside the school. Students have a lot of fun in our school, are happy and enjoy their learning experience. There are very few homework assignments, no grade rating (up to 6th grade) and there are no comparisons between students. Students are evaluated to track their progress and help them reach their maximum capacity rather than comparing with other students. Also, the technology used is at the highest level and developed mainly in Finland, the country with the number one pedagogy in the world.
